Amidst growing cases of Covid-19 in the country, the government announced abolition of customs duty on Remadecivir, its raw materials and other items used to make anti-viral drugs. A move to increase domestic supply of Remedicivir injections and It will help to reduce the cost. Remedicivir is used in the treatment of corona virus.

Department of Revenue said that the Central Government has decided to abolish the customs duty on these products in the public interest. Products that will no longer be subject to import duties include beta-cyclodectrin used in the manufacture of Remadecivir Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). This exemption of import duty will be applicable till 31 October this year. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted. “Remedesvir API, injections and other materials have been exempted from import duty in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s health care priority for Covid-19 patients.”
This will increase the supply and reduce costs, which will provide relief to the patients.
These are the changes –
Cadila Healthcare has reduced the price of Remdac (Remadecivir 100mg) injection from Rs 2,800 to Rs 899. Similarly, Syngene International has reduced the price of its brand Remwin from Rs 3,950 to Rs 2,450. Dr Reddy’s Lab of Hyderabad has reduced the price of RedYX from Rs 5,400 to Rs 2,700. Similarly, Cipla has reduced the price of its cipremi brand from Rs 4,000 to Rs 3,000. Melan has reduced the price of its brand from Rs 4,800 to Rs 3,400. Jubilant Generics has reduced the price of the brand of its Remedesivir from Rs 4,700 to Rs 3,400.
