Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has made a sharp attack on the union government over the contraction of GDP which has seen its worst fall in all these years. Gehlot took to twitter and tweeted that “India’s Q1 GDP has contracted by a massive 23.9%, wch is the worst contraction on record. Country’s economy is sinking since long but the NDA Govt has not taken any steps to improve the situation. All suggestions, warnings ignored completely. People are suffering due to the Govt’s inefficiency.”

On Tuesday morning also, he tweeted “It is most worrying that almost all sectors of the economy are sharply down: construction & manufacturing shrank over 50% & 39% respectively in April-June. While trade, hotels, transport & communications recorded contraction of 47%. The Government needs to take corrective measures urgently.”

Gehlot has been concerned about the poor condition of the economy and has voiced his opinion on earlier occasions too. The effect of policies of the union government (or the lack of it) affects all the states including Rajasthan and therefore the developmental programs and industries of the state are also affected by these economic parameters.

It is however strange that none of the BJP leaders of the state chose to make a remark on the GDP figures which were published on Monday evening.  BJP has several leaders who are considered good on finance/economic matters and had during the BJP regime, represented the state government during Niti Aayog meetings or GST council meetings and other such meetings.  While these leaders attack the state government for issues which are related to local bodies, on the issues pertaining to national interest, they are silent.
