True to its words, the government of Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan introduced bills in state assembly to negate the effects of farm laws enacted by the union government recently.

Parliamentary affairs minister Shanti Dhariwal tabled the Essential Commodities (Special Provisions and Rajasthan Amendment) Bill 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill 2020 and the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation and Rajasthan Amendment) Bill 2020 on Saturday at the start of the special assembly session.

Recently Gehlot had vowed to protect the interest of the farmers in the aftermath of the laws enacted by NDA government.  He has been resolute while seeking protection of farmers rights and options to sell their produce.

CM had made it very clear since the time the bills came in the parliament that Congress will stand with the farmers. After Punjab had passed the bills recently to negate their effect, Gehlot had expressed his opinion on social media and had tweeted that “INC under the leadership of Smt #SoniaGandhi ji& #RahulGandhi ji stands absolutely with our annadatas and will continue to oppose the anti-farmer laws passed by NDA Govt. Today Congress Govt in Punjab has passed Bills against these laws & Rajasthan will follow soon.”

While speaking at an event , Gehlot had attacked the union government for making the laws at this time and had said that the issues should had been discussed first with the stakeholders and a national debate on this issue should have happened.
