Congress opposes freeze on DA hike of central govt employees

The decision of the union government to freeze the Dearness Allowance (DA) hike of central government employees up to June 30, 2021

On Saturday, Opposition Congress posted a view on its twitter handle and opposed the decision of the government. Former Prime Minister Dr  Manmohan Singh, former President of the party Rahul Gandhi and former finance minister P.Chidambaram, slammed the government over its decision .

Dr Singh said that we should be on the side of people whose DA is being cut.  He added that he sincerely believe that it is not necessary that it is the stage to enforce hardship to government servants and armed forces personnel.

On Thursday, The finance ministry had taken a decision to put on hold increment in dearness allowance (DA) for 50 lakh central government employees and 61 lakh pensioners till July 2021 due to the COVID-19 crisis.

“In view of the crisis arising out of COVID-19, it has been decided that additional instalment of dearness allowance payable to central government employees and dearness relief (DR) to central government pensioners due from January 1, 2020, shall not be paid.

“The additional installment of DA and DR due from July 1, 2020, and January 1, 2021, shall also not be paid,” the Department of Expenditure said in an office memorandum on Thursday.
