Amidst the ongoing political impasse in the state , Rajasthan’s former Governor Margaret Alva has expressed her opinion on the role of Governor. She tweeted that “A Governor seizes to be a party man the moment he takes his oath of office. He has to uphold the constitution & follow the rule book. How can he refuse to call the assembly when the cabinet asks for it? Majorities are decided on the floor of the house and not in Raj Bhawans.”
Her comments have come at a time when Governor Kalraj Mishra yesterday refused to convene the assembly session even though it was advised by the state government. Though there is no reference made about this episode in her tweet.
Her comments are special because she was the Governor of the state when the BJP government headed by Vasundhara Raje was ruling the state and Alva has been a senior congress leader and has been union minister in successive governments of Congress in the centre. There were no issues or reports of any tussle between the Governor and the Chief Minister during her tenure.
Recently , the former governor had taken a dig at rebel Congress leader Sachin Pilot over his rebellion and had asked why the former deputy chief minister was in such a “hurry” and whether he was “aspiring” to become the prime minister by 45 years of age by joining the BJP.
During her tenure between 2012 and 2014 she had set high standards as the governor of the state.
Meanwhile all eyes are on the Rajbhawan and Governor Kalraj Mishra who is expected to take a decision after the state government got ready with another proposal to seek his approval for calling the assembly session.
