It was during one of the winter seasons of late 90’s that a script to topple the BJP government led by stalwart of Rajasthan politics Bhairon Sigh Shekhawat was written. It is said that Bhanwarlal Sharma who is currently involved in the rebellion against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was involved in the topple game that time too. Shekhawat was not well during that time and had gone to USA Cleveland to get operated. The coup was planned that time but was not successful. Sharma had that time sought help from Gehlot who was a senior leader of the party then but Gehlot promptly rejected this proposal and also brought this to the notice of P V Narasimha Rao and then Governor Baliram Bhagat telling him that at a time when Shekahwat was unwell, this was not the right thing to do. The coup failed and exposed the designs of Sharma who became infamous as the man who wanted to topple elected governments.

A similar attempt to topple the elected government was planned now two decades later with Sharma again in the loop. With Gehlot in power, this time seems to be the absence of such a leader in the opposition camp who can reject this brazen attempt to get power.  Currently SOG is trying to find Bhanwarlal sharma who has switched camps between these years and is now holed up with other rebel MLAs in Manesar/Delhi and police was to quiz him in this matter. The period is witnessing spurt in the number of corona patients across the country and the average rate of infection is 3.6 % which is said to be highest across the world. At such times the attempts to make an elected government unstable are indeed hurting the interest of the people. The pertinent question is what about the ideology on which the leaders fight elections?
