Rather than being just a social media status for a day and being a photo op item for World Senior Citizen Day, in Rajasthan, every day is a special day for the senior citizens thanks to the government of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
This is because of his innovative scheme of providing social security pensions to the senior citizens across the state. During his second term as the Chief Minister Gehlot had launched old age pension scheme for them.
It was later revised when he became the CM for the third time. After the first cabinet meeting it was announced that the old age pension was being revised from Rs 500 a month to Rs 750 for one eligible group and from Rs 750 to Rs 1000 for another eligible group.
This pension has come as a boon for lakhs of senior citizens who till the scheme started had no other source of income. They were therefore dependent on children or their people to meet out their expenditure which was a bit hesitating to them as they were compelled to seek financial assistance their children whom they had raised . Gehlot’s pension scheme removed this dependency and they could now spend at will.
He had also launched free pilgrimage travel scheme for the senior citizens. It was indeed a sight to watch groups of senior citizens finding their berths in the train and their smiling faces departing for the pious journey in company of their friends. The arrangements were good and attendants deputed for the job ensured that senior citizens faced no trouble.
Recently Rajasthan was adjudged best state across country for providing quality life to elderly people in the state. Therefore every day is a special day for senior citizens in the state.
