US First Lady Melania Trump visited a government school in south Delhi on Tuesday to attend a session of the ‘Happiness Class’.
Here she was accorded a warm traditional welcome and was greeted by young students, who garlanded her and applied traditional ‘teeka’ on her forehead.
The First lady of the US spent over an hour at the school and witnessed various activities which are part of the “Happiness Curriculum”. She also interacted with students and teachers.
Girls walked up to her and showed one of their projects to the First Lady as she listened to them affectionately.
She then went to another classroom which was of slightly older students, where she sat and witnessed them taking the “Happiness Class”.
While interacting with the students, Melania Trump said that it is very inspiring that students begin their day with practising mindfulness and connecting with nature.
She also mentioned that in the US, she works with children to promote similar ideas of well-being through BE BEST initiative.
Students of the school gifted Madhubani paintings made by them to the First Lady.
The happiness curriculum is being taught to the students from nursery up to class 8 of all the Delhi government schools. As part of the programme, students are taught various activities, including meditation, street plays, basic obedience and aims to reduce anxiety and stress levels among children.
